chillin in toyko

I am currently sitting in the Toyko airport in the Star Alliance lounge (while frequent flying causes lots of headaches, it can create some perks also). I am about halfway through my 36 hour travel to Chang Mai. Only a little longer here in Toyko, then it is onto Bangkok, where I get to sleep on the floor all night, and then in the morning (Wed.) it is off to Chang Mai.

It sounds so easy and simple.

t - 5 days

Well, I have recently been reading about all these people who are training and racing in these great places. They all seem to be warm and sunny and in these exotic locales. Since I steal internet from a house down the road, I have to sit with my front door open to get wireless. So it is with my front door open staring at the thermometer and looking at the piles of snow outside that I have read about everyone else's training and racing in really cool (hot!) places.

But the end is near.....it will finally break 40deg here in the crappy state of Nebraska tomorrow, so I am told. And, on top of that I am off to Thaliand for two weeks in 5 DAYS for some great training, racing, and to chill with my sis. Did I mention that the weekly forecast for Bangkok is over 100deg with the heat index? That is excellent....I want to pretend that I am an egg and that Bangkok is the frying pan. I need at least 2 weeks to thaw myself out. I will post panoply, myriad, or a plethora (pick your verbage) of pic's while I am there. Hopefully I will avoid the he-she's, but from what my people tell me they are eveywhere...

fallin' off the bandwagon

Ouch.

It has been about a month since my last post. Well in the last month quite a lot has happened. I put in the 3 largest run weeks of my life, then got sick. Went from 72 miles to 21 in a week. Chills, fever, coughs, just all the fun stuff. The sickness coincided with my traveling to Texas. So what was supposed to be a week of cycling and running in the sun, turned into a 3.5hr total week. Yeah, ouch!

Now I am back in good old Nebraska, waiting for another snow storm to hit. I think this one will hit tomorrow. You know, they talk all the time about global warming, but we have had the worst winter (coldest, snowiest) in years. I wish they could send a little more global warming this way! Well, the training is getting back on schedule. I have a couple of weeks then it is of to Thailand for the first race of the year. Its a two week trip, full of training and racing. I can't wait. I feel a little out of shape and undertrained, but there is nothing like going half-way around the world to get your butt kicked.

I promise the next post will be sooner. I also would have added pictures to this post, but I am stealing internet from across the street, and who wants to see more pic's of snow and icycles hanging from my beard.

why i love nebraska!

The above pic is from Saturday where temps were in the single digits and high winds. I did a tempo run, and thought that it was pretty significant, so I took pic's of myself. Little did I know that I was going to be one-upped by myself the following day.

These two pictures are from my long run on Sunday. 16 miles, just under 2 hours, below zero temps, snow, wind, and oh yes: a 2 inch icicle(sp?) hanging from my beard. It is not fake folks. In fact, It was so frozen to my beard that I couldn't get it off for ten minutes or so after the run.

Anyways, This is just one of the reasons that Nebraska is the best state in the union.

one more for today!

Two blogs in one day? Who would have thought. These two are so short they are more like bloggettes or bloggellas, pick your poison. Well I have decided when my first race of the season is going to be: Thailand. I am doing an ITU race in the Mukhadan Province in eastern Thailand. The cool part is that my sister is living over there for several years, so I will get to spend some time with her before the race. Hopefully it will be a great start to 2007.

Well I have to stop bogging and start training if I want to have any kind of fitness by late March.

its always the weather...

I was in Seattle, and it rained, snowed and was freezing cold. I went to Fort Worth, and it rained and rained. Now that I am back in Nebraska, we had two nice days, and now it is venturing into single digits and expected snow. The kicker is, all the places have been nice either right before or after my being there. Oh well, time to bundle up a get it done....

happppppy new year!!

Well, I am still in Funky Fresh town (Fort Worth for all you non-locals). Things have been going well. I have been able to see many of my old friends, and even sneak in a training session or two. Actually, the weather in Fort Worth has been cold and rainy. It has been good, though, to spend time with my family and friends. I really enjoy riding and hanging out with James and the gang at Fort Worth Cycling and Fitness. They have been a bid help to me over the years and it is always fun to come back and hammer the old groupd rides.

Only a few more days before it is back to Lincoln, the sub-arctic temps, and of course escuela. I am not excited about starting school again, but it is my last semester, and hopefully it will add some structure to my life. No more sleeoing in or staying up late.....back to the life of a monk.

envenido a miami (and seattle and fort worth)

Yes Yes,

It has been quite a long while since my last post. I have been very lazy. Hopefully I can turn the lights on again for the new year and blog regularly. I have been busy the last few weeks though. I flew to New York for the weekend, then finished up finals in Nebraska, and then flew to Miami for 2 weeks. I went there for some fun in the sun (or rain) and some good training with my favorite Puerto Rican, Manny Huerta. Manny's dirty 'rican Spanish was instrumental in my navigating Miami. Anyways, It was lots of hours on the bike and solid running. It was a great time, and helped jump-start the 2007 season. Right now, I am in Seattle, WA with my family and then tomorrow it is back to Texas for the rest of break, before school starts again.

Well, I will try to keep this more up to date than once per month. Merry Christmas and happy Boxing day (to all you Crazy Canucks)
